There have been
many great journalists that have paved the way and created a lane for a younger
generation of prospective journalist. One of the main journalists that inspired
me to want to adventure in journalism was Emmy-Award winning Ahmad Rashad. He
was the first sports journalist I saw as a child and thought his job was so
impressive.
Not only was Ahmad Rashad a journalist, but also prior to broadcasting he played 10 seasons in the NFL. After his pro career ended he began covering professional sports. He televised contests as a studio anchor, game reporter for ABC and NBC, and hosted his show NBA Inside Stuff.
Ahmad Rashad is inspiring because he transitioned from being a professional athlete to a broadcast journalist. He could have easily retired after his playing days were done but he wanted to start a new career that led him to much success. I remember watching NBA Inside Stuff as a child and admired Ahmad Rashad because he got to ask all the NBA players questions and joke and hang around with them. I always imagined doing the same thing. It’s spectacular to see him still working and enjoying his job more than ever.
